　　20年1,400万字的艰难创作，他用完了80瓶“一得阁”墨汁，20余条墨块，用坏两个墨盒（砚台），用秃470支毛笔，用掉宣纸8,000多张，耗资5万余元。据权威人士评价：他创造了一项史无前例的书法艺术之最！堪称“华夏一绝”。令人吃惊的是，这些作品全是他利用业余时间创作的。他以书法人特有的定力，把工作干得非常出色。先后四次嘉奖，一次立三等功，多次被评为优秀共产党员。20年中，他没有休息过一个节假日，每天只睡5小时，“抄书”5小时，一年365天，天天如此。他探亲休假也要带上笔		 墨和纸。1993年和1994年他先后两次住院都没有中断创作，往往是一边输液一边抄写，医生和护士都被他的精神深深感动。他的妻子除承担起全部家务外，还为他端水研磨，裁纸、装订。全家人省吃俭用，省下来的钱全部用于他的书法创作。

t is a “first in China” and unique in the world to have worked continuously for 20 years to copy, by using Chinese writing brush, the works of great personages and famous classical writings totaling 14 million words bound in 108 volumes. The calligrapher is Cheng Chuanbang, a division chief with the rank of colonel and regimental commander of the Academy of PLA Armored Forces and Engineering Corps. Bathing in the spring breeze of reform and opening-up and cherishing boundless respect for the creators of the people’s republic, Cheng Chuanbang began his pioneering undertaking in 1978 – to copy with Chinese writing brush the works of great personages and famous classical works. In the course of 20 years, with exceptional willpower and pursuit as well as the spirit of upholding truth, he copied the works and selected works of great personages who founded the country, including Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping, Li Xiannian, Chen Yun and Peng Zhen; the series of important speeches of Party General Secretary Jiang Zemin; and famous Chinese classical works such as <Informal Essay of Rong Studio>, <A Dream of Red Mansions> and such books as <My Father – Deng Xiaoping>, amounting to a total of 14 millions words. During the laborious handwriting of 14 million words in 20 years, he exhausted 80 bottles of Chinese ink, over 20 ink sticks, used up two ink boxes (ink slabs) and 470 Chinese writing brushes and over 8,000 sheets of high quality paper, at the total cost of over 50,000 yuan. During the 20 years, he has not enjoyed any holiday. Everyday, he slept only 5 hours and “did copying” 5 hours all the year round, namely, for 365 days. He brought his writing brushes, ink and paper with him even on home leave. He did not interrupt the creation when he was hospitalized twice in 1993 and 1994. Sometimes he did copying while receiving medical infusion. Both the doctor and nurse were deeply touched by his spirit. Besides shouldering the responsibility of doing the whole housework, his wife had to fetch water, moisten the ink, cut paper and do bookbinding for him. The whole family lived frugally and used all the money saved for his calligraphic creation. The handwriting of Cheng Chuanbang is bold and vigorous with a unique style of his own. The news about his copying in handwriting the works of great personages and famous classical works have been spread far and wide, having attracted the attention of businessmen, both in China and abroad.
